There is a catch: You need to drive an electric car capable of handling such high voltage, like the Chevrolet Volt. Such cars have two charging ports, one that can plug into a standard 110-volt household outlet and a 220 or 240-volt charger and a second one for a Level 3 fast-charger. "Fast charging stations along high-traffic transportation corridors will help make driving electric vehicles between communities a viable option for Oregonians," Art James, a project director with the Oregon Department of Transportation, said in a statement. Steven Gitlin, AeroVironment's vice president for marketing strategy and communications, said in an email that the company would initially install eight fast-char goverment technology gers at locations to be chosen along Interstate 5, the main north-south route through the Pacific Northwest.
